SEIU Protest

Our Care Counts 2025
SEIU 2015 protesting cuts to Medicaid

On June 4, 2025, thousands of caregivers and healthcare workers gathered at the California State Capitol in Sacramento to protest proposed state and federal budget cuts to Medicaid and long-term care services. Organized by SEIU Local 2015, the “Our Care Counts 2025” demonstration aimed to shine a light on how these cuts could jeopardize care for vulnerable populations, including older adults and individuals with disabilities. Protesters carried signs and chanted slogans demanding that the state prioritize the needs of caregivers and those who rely on them.

Santa Cruz Taking it to The Beach
Massive human banner

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, nearly 1,000 individuals gathered at Santa Cruz's Main Beach to participate in a striking visual protest organized by Indivisible Santa Cruz County and activist Becca Moeller. The event featured a massive human banner spelling out "RESIST!" in vibrant rainbow colors, symbolizing both opposition to the Trump administration's policies and a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Santa Cruz Pride.

Each of the 70-foot-tall letters was meticulously crafted using colored fabric, with participants dressed to match their designated sections. The entire banner spanned 220 feet across the beach, creating a vivid tableau of unity and defiance. Beneath the main message, the phrase "No Going Back" was inscribed in the sand, reinforcing the community's commitment to progress and inclusivity.

The event was designed as a peaceful, family-friendly demonstration, encouraging participants to express their dissent through art and collective action. Organizers emphasized the importance of nonviolent resistance and the power of community solidarity in challenging policies perceived as regressive.

However, the inclusion of the phrase "86 47" etched into the sand above the banner sparked controversy. While some viewed it as a symbolic call to remove the 47th president from office, others criticized it as a veiled threat. Organizers clarified that the message was intended as a metaphorical expression of opposition, not an incitement to violence.

This demonstration was part of a broader series of "Hands Off!" protests occurring nationwide, reflecting widespread dissent against the administration's actions and a collective call for the protection of democratic values and minority rights.
