We’re Here. Where is Vince Fong?

... indeed all of California, advocates for disability rights showed up in force to demand clear answers on Medicaid and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Their message was simple: vague, non-committal positions from elected officials are unacceptable when real lives hang in the balance.
At Vince Fong’s Clovis office, the turnout—nearly a hundred strong—spoke volumes. Protesters came not for confrontation, but for conversation. They came with hope: the hope of being heard directly by their representative. Instead, they were met with a locked door and a noticeable absence.
Fong’s failure to meet with constituents—especially those most vulnerable to policy decisions on Medicaid and the ADA—is troubling. Silence, in this context, speaks louder than words. It sends the message that the concerns of people with disabilities are a political inconvenience rather than a moral priority.
In a democracy, representatives are supposed to represent all their constituents, not just those who can navigate the system without assistance. The Week of Action made it clear: people with disabilities are not going to sit quietly while their rights and healthcare are treated as political bargaining chips.
The Central Valley showed up. Vince Fong didn’t. And that will be remembered. For more information, please call 916-838-7476 or contact Jaylen at jalen@dvunited.org.
